Winter started and cold weather is upon us. Children get sick faster than usual. The common cold is generally caused by nasal congestion and sneezing. It could also cause sore throat, cough and other symptoms.
The decongestant more commonly used is pseudoephedrine that is a component in several medications: anti-allergic, antitussive, anticatharrhal. Many children regardless of age take these types of medications. The risk of side effects such as agitation, tremors, vomit or tachycardia, the risk is higher with children under two, even if they are less frequent the complications are serious. There can be danger if an over those of pseudoephedrine is consumed or it is used for a prolonged period.
In conclusion the previously mentioned syrups take away cough and colds temporally but it brings illness on the long run.
I recommend the natural homemade cough syrup:
¼ red onion
Juice of 3 lemons
1 tea spoon of honey
3 cm of ginger
1 garlic clove
Use blender or juicer!
*Remember that this syrup only last 1 day because of the lemon.
